The New York Mets cut ticket prices for home games by as much as 50 percent as the team’s chances of making the Major League Baseball postseason faded.
The Mets are offering discounts from 33 percent to 50 percent on some seats via the Theatermania NYC Web site at 13 of their remaining 26 home games. Fans can save $40 to $90 on Metro Box, Field Box, Caesars Club and Baseline Box tickets, team spokesman David Newman said in an e-mail.
“As in previous years, we continue to provide special offers for select and limited inventory for single game tickets to select games,” Newman said.
The Mets (53-61), who beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4 last night, are 11 games behind the National League East division-leading Philadelphia Phillies and 9.5 games behind the Colorado Rockies in the race for the NL’s wildcard place.
The Mets have sold almost 3 million tickets in their first season at Citi Field, Newman said. Through the team’s first 55 home games, 94 percent of seats have sold, compared with 88 percent at Shea Stadium last year, he said.
