The WTA Tour has promoted David Shoemaker to president.
He succeeds new tour CEO Stacey Allaster, a native of Welland, Ont., who used to work for Tennis Canada.
Shoemaker previously served as the tour's chief operating officer, general counsel and head of the Asia-Pacific region.
Shoemaker's new job puts him in charge of the tour's overall day-to-day operations and business affairs, tournament and player relations, and international TV and digital media rights.
He helped negotiate the tour's six-year, US$88-million sponsorship agreement with Sony Ericsson and the $84 million in agreements that put the season-ending championships in Qatar from 2008-10 and Turkey from 2011-13.
The WTA Tour is in Toronto this week for the Rogers Cup.
