3D virtual reality system technology will be adopted for the official website of Asian Games to present in three-dimension format the exterior and interior of the Asian Games venues. As a result, citizens can visualise the venues and even seats via the internet after buying entrance tickets for the Games.
Through the introduction to 3D virtual reality system technology to support the research and application of crucial web technology for online simulation of the sports venues, the Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC) will build a platform for internet experience and real-time interaction. The platform will display the styles and features of the 41 venues and the Asian Games Town and, based on the essential information provided by the geographical information system, show the topographical and geographical features and urban scenes of relevant locations so that the Guangzhou Asiad will be "an Asian Games whose curtain will never come down".
Staff in charge of the GAGOC official website said the programme was still on the drawing board and that their preliminary idea was to enable the citizens to preview the venues online based on the data provided by the ticketing department. "After purchasing tickets, they can input their seat numbers and the computer will take them, online, to the specific venues and stands. This way, our citizens can have a visual preview of their seats," they said.
They also pointed out that the Information Department of the CPC Guangzhou Committee would work with GACOC to publish a brochure entitled the Asian Games Reporting Project. The brochure will serve as a news coverage guide for all the journalists from Asian countries who come to report on the Games. With this brochure, they are hoping to promote the time-honoured culture and history of Guangzhou and the cultural features of the Lingnan water villages.
