UEFA announces media rights deals in Brazil
 04/09/2009

UEFA has announced the award of the 2009-12 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League media rights in Brazil.

More comprehensive coverage
For the UEFA Champions League, four broadcast partners will team up to provide comprehensive coverage of Europe's leading club competition. The new agreements will expand free-to-air coverage to two nights per matchweek instead of just one as was the case during the last rights cycle.

Live and highlights
Free-to-air partner Esporte Interativo will transmit one match played each Tuesday throughout the season, both on a live basis and then repeated in full on a delayed basis in a peak viewing slot. Free-to-air Wednesday games will be guaranteed throughout the campaign on TV Bandeirantes, thanks to a sub-licensing deal with Globo. In addition, TV Bandeirantes will broadcast one highlights programme and the weekly UEFA Champions League Magazine show each week, while Globo will screen at least the annual UEFA Champions League final.

ESPN involvement
This free-to-air coverage is complemented by a significant commitment from incumbent broadcaster ESPN. ESPN will show live matches each matchday on each of its pay channels ESPN and ESPN Brasil. ESPN's coverage will also include comprehensive delayed programming providing fans with as much coverage as possible.

UEFA Europa League
The UEFA Europa League will also achieve broad coverage in Brazil courtesy of ESPN's commitment. ESPN will broadcast four games each matchweek on ESPN and ESPN Brazil – two games from each of the early and late kick-off slots – and will also show a weekly highlights programme. Moreover, free-to-air channel Rede TV! will offer a good mix of live and delayed UEFA Europa League matches which will allow viewers to benefit from a wide-ranging choice of fixtures. From this season, fans in Brazil will also be able to follow the best European club football on the internet via the websites of Esporte Interativo, Globo and ESPN, as well as on mobile.

'Brazilian fans can follow their heroes'
Commenting on the award of these rights, UEFA said: "UEFA is delighted to announce these new rights deal for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League in Brazil. The deals offer a unique blend of free and pay coverage and guarantee that Brazilian football fans will be able to follow their local heroes as they play in Europe's two leading club competitions. UEFA welcomes the commitment demonstrated by each of the partners and very much looks forward to developing and continuing a successful relationship with each of them during 2009-12. UEFA also wishes to thank Rede Record for its contribution to the UEFA Champions League in recent seasons." TEAM Marketing AG is the exclusive marketing agent of UEFA for the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and UEFA Europa League.
