Jack Wilkie appointed to represent Perth 2011 in North America
 15/09/2009

Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships Director Commercial Operations Darren Beazley today announced that Jack Wilkie has been appointed to represent the organisation in North America.

Mr Wilkie will promote the international Regatta, to be held in Fremantle from 3rd to 18th December, 2011, and will recruit sponsors and supporters from the US and Canada.

The Championships will serve as the major qualifying Regatta for the 2012 London Olympic Games, attracting 1420 international athletes, vying for about 400 positions, in the 10 Olympic sailing disciplines.

In making the announcement Mr Beazley said: “We would like to welcome Jack Wilkie to the Perth 2011 team. Jack comes with extensive cause-related and sports marketing experience. He also has first-hand knowledge of Fremantle and world class sailing events, having headed the development, merchandising and licensing efforts for the New York Yacht Club’s ‘America II Challenge’ in the 1987 America’s Cup Defence campaign.”

“In addition, he was executive producer for ‘The Walter Cronkite America’s Cup Report’.”

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Wilkie said: “Perth 2011 is about to deliver an international Event that upholds the Olympic ideal and attracts the attention of an audience beyond sailing enthusiasts, in more than 80 nations. It is a privilege to be associated with the sailing legends who are part of the organising committee and to advance the sport of sailing.”

“Perth offers the finest venue in the world for this competition and exciting developments are in store with the latest television and Internet technology to provide unprecedented viewing of all the action.”
