 21/09/2009

The Russian branch of the Europe’s largest car manufacturer, Volkswagen Group, has been awarded Tier One Partner status for the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Volkswagen Group Rus will attain General Partner status in the Sochi 2014 Automotive category after a competitive tender process.

The President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, Dmitry Chernyshenko, and the General Director of Volkswagen Group Rus, Dietmar Korzekwa, today signed the agreement during the Sochi Economic Forum underway in the Black Sea coastal city.

As part of the agreement, Volkswagen Group Rus will supply circa 3000 vehicles to the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee for use during preparations and the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, including its Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda brands. The majority of the vehicles will be produced in the Volkswagen factory in Kaluga.

Value-in-kind contributions will be a part of the total agreement value, which also includes items such as vehicle maintenance, driver training, breakdown cover and cleaning of the vehicle fleets.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sochi 2014 CEO, said:

“This is a major agreement for Sochi 2014 in an important category. Volkswagen is one of the world’s best known companies, with a strong presence in Russia. We look forward to working closely with Volkswagen Group Rus and are already impressed by their commitment to excellence and innovation, which are just two of the principles we share at Sochi 2014.”

Dietmar Korzekwa, Volkswagen Group Rus, said:

“Volkswagen has become a serious player in the field of sport sponsoring in Russia. Volkswagen has been the official automobile partner of the Olympic Summer Games 2008 in Beijing and the experiences of this partnership proved to be very successful. The Support of the Olympic Games in Sochi will help us to demonstrate our automotive competence and the strong connection with Russia and our Russian consumers”.

Once the contractual process is complete, Volkswagen Group Rus will be granted the official status of General Partner of the XXII Olympic Winter Games 2014 and XI Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, General Partner of the Russian Olympic and Paralympic Committees (until the end of 2016) and also General Partner of the Russian Olympic and Paralympic teams (at the 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016 Games).
