IMG Sports Media named exclusive distribution partner for A1GP
 22/09/2009

IMG Sports Media announced it has signed a deal with A1GP World Cup of Motorsport to market its worldwide media rights for seasons five, six and seven, running from 2009 to 2012.

IMG Sports Media will represent all exclusive TV broadcast, VOD, In-flight and Ship-at-Sea rights and non-exclusive mobile rights for the next three seasons of A1GP.

A1GP pits nation against nation in the 'World Cup of Motorsport.' Drivers from more than 20 countries compete without financial or technological advantage in the A1GP Powered by Ferrari car. With a level playing field, success is dependent on pure skill and ambitious and exciting driving.

Adam Kelly, Marketing Director, IMG Sports Media said, "We are delighted to be representing A1GP within the IMG Sports Media portfolio. IMG hopes to bring the A1GP Powered by Ferrari cars, fans and viewers closer to the action of this truly global sport – a very attractive property for broadcasters worldwide. In such a challenging world of motorsport, IMG will utilize its experience in this field and unrivalled network of global contacts to bring A1GP to a wider audience than ever before."

A1GP Chairman, Tony Teixeira, said, "I have always had a long wish list of deals we wanted to make our series one of the most well known on the sporting calendar. A deal such as this was at the top of it, and to be associated with IMG Sports Media is just what we needed to ensure we have the best possible representation in this highly competitive market. The plans they have for us are exciting and innovative."

The fiercely competitive on-track action commands wide audiences as A1GP tours the globe. With two races at every stop on the calendar, there is double the racing and double the excitement of an ordinary motorsport event.

An A1GP event features three days of on-track action, with two Practice Sessions on Friday, another on Saturday followed by three ten minute Qualifying Sessions and one Sprint Race and Feature Race on Sunday. All points gained from the Sprint and Feature Races are allocated to their National teams as there are no 'driver' points.

The 2009/10 season will be the second to feature the A1GP Powered by Ferrari car. Designed to the highest standards, with the aim of providing a high-performance single-seater, it embodies A1GP's core value of exciting racing on a level playing field.

Despite its youth, A1GP has already cemented its position in international motorsport by signing a six-year deal with Ferrari to manufacture and supply all A1GP engines.
