Basketball next to go Cashless
 29/09/2009

Basketball has become the latest sport to have benefited from the innovative electronic payment system supplied by German company payment solution AG.

Arena Trier, the home of German Basketball League side TBB Trier, has installed the premier justpay system ahead of the new German Basketball League season which begins in October.

Basketball is added to the ever expanding portfolio of sports that have engaged payment solutions AG and joins top German stadia in football, handball and Formula 1, having recently enabled cashless payment at the Nurburgring for the German Grand Prix.

justpay will provide fans and visitors with a quick and easy solution when purchasing food and drink inside the Arena that will help eliminate queuing and speed up the purchasing process.

Wolfgang Esser, CEO of Castle Trier GmbH, which runs Arena Trier, said; “We carried out extensive research and discussed with the arenas and stadia that already rely on payment solution’s experienced full-service-operation.

“We are well aware of the countless advantages of electronic payment and we quickly decided to use successful justpay system.

“The professional supervision of payment solution will enable us to customize our catering in the future depending on the event and personal tastes, it will certainly help make our operating system more transparent.”

The Arena is not only home to TBB Trier but will also be the venue for women’s handball team Trierer Miezen and host music concerts on 40 days of the year.
Esser is excited about the benefits to the stadium, he said; “Our visitors do not only benefit from the accelerated payment process at the food and drink stalls on location but also from the unique online services and multifunctional ways in which justpay can be used.

“We experienced the justpay system at Colognes’ RheinEnergieStadium when we were investigating the way forward for the stadium and the ease of use played a major role in our decision.”

The justpay card is the most modern payment system in the European market. Fans create a virtual profile and can top up their card online before entering the stadium.

Heinz-Peter Strömsdörfer, CSO&COO; at payment solution AG, said; “We are to enter the Basketball market in a partnership with Arena Trier.

“Having introduced cashless payment to the German handball league and to the Ricoh Arena in the UK we are playing a cutting edge role in basketball now.

“Our ability to manage the entire system, from implementation to recruiting staff and maintenance, allows our partners to concentrate on their core business and I am positive that many more stadiums and arenas will follow suit with the justpay system.”

The German based company has now installed their innovative electronic payment solution into several stadiums in their homeland and has already started to create a footprint in Europe.

payment solution supplied cashless systems at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, Donbass Arena, Donetsk, Ukraine, AFG Arena, St. Gallen, Switzerland, Hoffenheim’s new Rhein-Neckar Arena, Nurburgring, RheinEnergieStadium, Cologne, Fritz-Walter-Stadium, Kaiserslautern and Commerzbank-Arena, Frankfurt.
