The Professional Soccer League yesterday declared Saturday’s election of Kirsten Nematandani as president of the SA Football Association as unconstitutional and illegitimate.
Nematandani was elected unapposed after 2010 Organising Committee heavyweights Danny Jordaan and Irvin Khoza recused themselves.
The PSL said Judge Ralph Zulman, the electoral officer at Saturday’s meeting, had ruled the election should be postponed over uncertainty that existed over claims that Jordaan and Khoza were not eligible for election.
’With the electoral officer having made this ruling, the meeting legally could not proceed,’ the PSL said in a statement.
FIFA has expressed its alarm that the elections were scheduled ahead of the World Cup.
