Tiger Woods is the first athlete to surpass the $1 billion mark in career earnings, Forbes magazine reported on its Web site.
By capturing his second FedEx Cup title last week as the top-performing player on the U.S. PGA Tour, Woods earned the season-long competition’s $10 million bonus, pushing him over the $1 billion mark in prize money and endorsements, the magazine reported, citing its own calculations.
Woods’s agent, Mark Steinberg, has said neither he nor the golfer track career earnings. Woods began his professional career in 1996.
Going into the 2009 season, Woods, 33, had amassed $895 million including appearance fees and money earned through his golf course design business, Forbes said. Not including his season-ending bonus, Woods made $10.5 million on the U.S. Tour, capturing six tournament titles.
