Australian Open Champions to Get Record $1.8 Million Prize Money 06/10/2009

The men’s and women’s champions at the 2010 Australian Open will each pocket a record A$2.1 million ($1.85 million) in prize money.
Tennis Australia said today it increased the prize fund at the season-opening Grand Slam tournament by 4.1 percent from this year’s event to A$24.1 million.
Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal each pocketed A$2 million for winning the singles titles in Melbourne nine months ago.
Kim Clijsters and Juan Martin del Potro each earned a $1.6 million for their U.S. Open victories last month.
