The New Delhi Commonwealth Games organising chiefs have demanded the removal of federation chief executive Mike Hooper from his monitoring role in India.
Fuelling a row with the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) in the build-up to the Games scheduled from Oct. 3-14, 2010, the Indian Olympic Association asked the organising panel to write a formal letter to the federation.
The build-up has been plagued by delays in Games projects, prompting the CGF to appoint a fresh technical panel to monitor and submit monthly reports on the progress of work.
"The (IOA) executive council observed that the presence of Mike Hooper has not proved beneficial to the organising committee. Instead, he has only been an impediment to the functioning despite spending two years in the capital," Suresh Kalmadi, organising panel chairman and IOA president said.
"It advised that the organising committee write to the CGF recommending Hooper's repatriation from Delhi on an urgent basis to allow its smooth functioning," he told reporters on Thursday, asking CGF to name a new official in that role.
The CGF president Mike Fennell has slammed the functioning of the organising panel and asked it to urgently appoint a slew of foreign experts, which appears to have triggered the row.
New Zealander Hooper criticised the demand.
"I'm very disappointed to hear the comments made by Mr Kalmadi today," he told Indian media. "Launching a personal attack, to be quite honest with you, is most unfortunate and totally inappropriate."
