Now that the 2018 Winter Olympic Games bid cities have been announced without a bid city from the United States, Jon Killoran, executive director of the Reno-Tahoe Winter Games Coalition, said he is sending correspondence boosting the Reno-Tahoe area for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
Killoran said, "we want to stay on course. We want to be the next North American region selected to host an Olympic Winter Games".
Reno has failed in six attempts to secure a Winter Olympics, reports the Las Vegas Review-Journal, but Killoran reportedly is not giving up.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Bob Condron, a spokesman for the U.S. Olympic Committee, said Thursday that the organization had put all of its efforts on the Chicago bid and that "there was no time to consider" Reno for 2018.
Killoran said he is encouraged by polls that show local support for a 2022 bid. He added he believes the IOC is now more aware of Reno-Tahoe since he went to Copenhagen for the IOC vote for the 2016 Games.
Some of the Reno-Tahoe board members also intend to visit the Vancouver 2010 Games to tout Reno for future Games, reports the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
