Commonwealth Games Officials Agree to End Disputes Over Delhi's 2010 Event 30/10/2009 |

Organizers of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi and the movement’s global body decided to put behind them a row over preparations for next year’s event and to work as “partners” for its success.
Officials from the Delhi organizing committee and the Games Federation have publicly differed on issues ranging from progress in building stadiums to the hiring of overseas experts. Indian officials this month sought the removal of the chief executive officer of the Games Federation from the city, saying he had obstructed progress.
The rapprochement, laid out in a joint statement e-mailed to reporters, came after talks between Games Federation Chief Michael Fennell and Chairman of the Organizing Committee Suresh Kalmadi in London.
“It is agreed that there have been misunderstandings and unfortunate media statements and reports that have created a regrettable set of circumstances,” the officials said without mentioning areas where they have differed.
“However, we feel that it is critical that our attention is focused entirely on those functional areas that are essential to the successful celebration of the Games,” they said
Indian authorities are racing to build or upgrade sports venues and a village for athletes and officials. Delhi is also constructing a new airport, expanding its metro rail system and improving the historic commercial heart of the city, Connaught Place, before competitors and spectators arrive.
