The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is already benefiting from the Fifa 2010 Soccer World Cup.
The board received a R28500 financial windfall from the World Cup Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan area this week.
The donated funds are to be used to buy golf clothing for youngsters in the Eastern Cape who have progressed past the beginner level in the sport’s development programme.
Nelson Mandela Bay 2010 World Cup programme manager Sisa Tabata, said the programme should create benefits for local people beyond the World Cup and spread World Cup fever.
John Bailey, manager of the SAGDB in the Eastern Cape said the money came at the right time , as the SAGDB was experiencing financial difficulties.
It’s all systems go for the Rand Aid Association’s (RAA) 18-hole Annual Golf Day at Modderfontein Golf Club on Thursday.
Co-ordinator, Corrie Jansen said the format was a fourball alliance with two scores to count.
She said the purpose of the event was to raise funds for the Rand Aid Association based in Lyndhurst.
“All fourballs are already sold out but we have space for some sponsored holes,’’ said Jansen.

The St James Anglican Church in Diepkloof, Soweto, will stage its 18-hole Golf Day at Crown Mines Golf Club on November 27.
The format is a fourball-betterball and the tee-off is at 10.30am.
The presiding priest, the Reverend Mothusimang Makata, said the church was celebrating 45 great years of existence.
“We want to develop ourselves so that we can meet the challenges of our congregation of about 250 members,’’ he said.
Companies and golf legends are invited to participate in the event.
The entry fee is R250 a person and Phezulu Mayeza (076-424-9499) and Mphendulo Mayeza (071-345-4241) are the contact people.
The Black Management Forum (BMF) – Dr Kenneth Kaunda District branch – will stage their first Golf Day over 18 holes at the Orkney Golf Club on November 20. Tee-off is at 8am.
Spokesman Ithuteng Nkhereanye said the format will be a fourball alliance, two scores to count with a scramble drive.
The entry fee is R2000 a fourball and this is inclusive of the green fee, golf shirt, halfway house, cap, dinner and prizes.

South Africa’s Retief Goosen finished third at the Iskandar Johor Open in Malaysia on Sunday.
He carded 201 (69 70 62) and was five shots from the winner KJ Choi of Korea who finished on 196 (68 64 64).
