Today, the City of Poznan, Poland launched their website www.poznan2014.org as part of the city’s bid to host the 2014 Youth Olympic Games.
As the cornerstone of Poznan 2014’s digital footprint, the launch of www.poznan2014.org marks the beginning of an extensive new media strategy, with elements ranging from a blog, to social media connectivity through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr and more.
These digital efforts reflect a strong response to the International Olympic Committee’s emphasis on new media.
“We want to engage the youth where they are—online, and on their favorite social media and communication platforms,” says Ryszard Grobelny, Mayor of Poznan. “We were amazed by the initial reaction to promoting the bid on Facebook—we gained thousands of supporters within the first days after launch. This is a strong signal of the interest and enthusiasm for the Olympic Movement among European youth.”
With its focus on sports, culture and education the Youth Olympic Games encourages youth to discover and develop their talents, be it in sports, arts, science or entrepreneurship. Poland has made the celebration and nurturing of talent the key focus for the Games with an exciting cultural and educational program ready to be implemented immediately, should the Games be awarded to Poland.
In its bid to host the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, Poznan is competing with Guadalajara, Mexico and Nanjing, China.
