Former Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has joined CAA to head up the agency’s international sports business.
Kenyon, who is also a former Manchester United chief executive, will be responsible for growing CAA (Creative Arts Agency) in areas such as player representation, sponsorship and media rights beyond its US base.
CAA represents Hollywood actors such as George Clooney, as well as many leading athletes in the US, and worked with Kenyon during his time at Chelsea.
The agency set up a sports division three years ago and as part if his duties, Kenyon – who will be based in London – will manage CAA’s day-to-day business in the UK, Portugal, Sweden, Russia, Japan and Israel.
He said: “In a short period of time and in an increasingly competitive environment, CAA Sports has established itself as a leader in US sports, and I look forward to helping grow its international presence and creating new opportunities for the agency and its clients overseas.”
Kenyon, who was chief executive at Roman Abramovich’s Chelsea for more than four years, is credited with helping build the club into a global brand thanks to multi-million-pound sponsorship deals with the likes of Samsung.
CAA managing partner David O’Connor said: “Peter’s outstanding record of success at the highest levels of international sport, plus his deep industry relationships and vast knowledge of the marketplace, will help us accelerate the momentum of our existing businesses and provide clients with unparalleled insight.”
