Puma says it hopes “home field advantage” at next year’s World Cup in South Africa will be good for business.
The German sportswear giant is the official kit supplier to 12 African teams, including the Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Egypt, Morocco and Togo.
Chief executive Jochen Zeitz said: “We hope to see the first signs of an improving business environment in the run up to the football World Cup.”
But he added that the market is likely to remain challenging in the final three months of this year. Puma’s third-quarter pre-tax profits before interest fell 21.6% to 98m EUROS.
The company has been majority-owned by PPR, the French luxury goods maker, since 2007.
