BSkyB has launched an application that will allow people to watch live sport on Apple’s iPhone.
Users will be able to watch live Premier League football, Scottish football, cricket and golf on Sky Sports and ESPN over a wi-fi connection for £6 a month.
Sky already has several applications on the iPhone but Sky Mobile TV will take it into new territory. The company’s pay-TV subscribers are charged £26.50 a month for Sky Sports 1 or 2, or £35 for its total sports package without ESPN. The iPhone application will be free to download.
“Our new Sky Mobile TV app combines the demand for great live TV on the move with the high quality viewing experience offered by iPhone and iPod touch,” said David Gibbs, Sky’s mobile general manager.
Sky says there have been 2 million downloads of Sky applications on the iPhone to date, including Sky Sports and Sky Sports Football Score Centre.
Vodafone and Orange will be selling the iPhone in the coming months after O2’s exclusive deal with Apple expired.
