Cardiff’s plans to make a bid for the 2022 Commonwealth Games have won the support of Lord Coe.
The team behind the preliminary bid is said to be in talks with Cardiff Council before going to the Welsh Assembly with the proposal.
And Lord Coe, the man who spearheaded London’s successful bid to host the 2012 Olympics, believes the city has a good chance of pulling it off.
He told the BBC: “Wales is beginning to get a reputation for very high quality event management.”
Cardiff has hosted a Rugby World Cup final, FA Cup finals, world championship boxing and rallying, Grand Prix speedway and Ashes Test cricket in the last decade and next year golf's Ryder Cup will be held at the Celtic Manor Resort near Newport.
When asked about Cardiff’s prospects of staging the Commonwealth Games, Coe added: “It’s not that far-fetched.
“If they have a really good co-ordinated programme, and obviously political and sporting support, you could see Wales do that again.”
