Bruno Senna, the nephew of legendary Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna, has revealed that one of the reasons new team Campos has given him a seat for next season is to use his name to attract sponsors.
Senna, whose late uncle won the F1 world championship three times, will drive for the Spanish team on the expanded grid next year.
The 26-year-old said of his two year deal: “I will receive no pay but I’m allowed to have personal sponsors. I am here because I trust Adrian [Campos] completely. I spoke with all the teams except Ferrari, and almost all of them demanded that I contribute Euros 5m in sponsorship.
”In the end I reached an agreement with Campos because they believe in me and because they think that my name will help them to get sponsors.”
It is still unclear who Senna’s team-mate will be with McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa now unlikely to join Campos.
Senna added: “I would like to have Pedro de la Rosa but he is Spanish and there are problems with the sponsorships of Spaniards. There are other options from Russia and Venezuela but everything depends on the sponsors.”
