America’s Cup holders Alinghi have conceded defeat over next year’s venue, meaning the competition will be held in Valencia in Spain.
The Swiss team had wanted to race American challenger BMW Oracle in the United Arab Emirates in February but a court ruling stated that the event must take place in the Southern Hemisphere or Valencia.
Alinghi launched an appeal and also put forward the east coast of Australia as a possible venue but have now agreed to BMW Oracle’s original proposal of Valencia. However, they say the offer of Australia “remains on the table”.
